Voices of Volya, a Ukrainian choir, popped into the Salehurst Halt this Sunday and did an impromptu set for those lucky enough to be in the pub at the time.
Dressed in their beautiful national outfits (most hand-made by themselves), they treated us to a few songs; the first were all sung in Ukrainian, and were based upon traditional songs or folklore; and they finished with a flourish by singing a wonderful rendition of Abba’s Dancing Queen which had the bar staff, and none other than our very own Karen, dancing and singling along.
The choir were officially performing in the Remembrance Day service in the church here in Salehurst, but were able to add to their own charity collection by some generous locals in the pub. The ladies are collecting for another motorised wheelchair to help veterans of the Ukrainian War. They have already succeeded in buying one for an ex-soldier who’s life has been greatly improved thanks to their donation, and they are keen to repeat this for other veterans.
We are most grateful to them for coming along and wish them all the best in their fundraising endevours.
