Halt Equals Happy

Salehurst Halt Garden May 26

Research by the University of Oxford, no less, has revealed that frequenting your local pub contributes to enhanced health and happiness by fostering face-to-face interactions and social circles.

In a world seeing ever decreasing occassions for personal interaction, from shops now having scan-it-yourself checkouts to more jobs being work from home, the amount of day-to-day interactions have dramatically diminished over the years.

The research highlighted that regular pub goers often feel more socially engaged, contented and trusting of their community. Popping down your local promotes camaraderie and relaxation, and can enhance and foster a sense of community. Social networks have long been known to foster a buffer against both mental and physical illness, and this form of social network, not online but in person, provides this in abundance.

Backing this research up, a report entitled ‘Pub is the Hub’ equates every £1 spent in your local pub to giving you a personal ROI (return on investment) of over £8.00 in social value, reinforcing the pub’s crucial role in supporting community cohension and wellbeing. This is particular important in rural areas, helping to combat social isolation and increase social interaction.

Here at the Salehurst Halt we are very priviledged to have many, many ‘locals’; people who have been visiting for years; people who come in to chat to other locals, to our friendly front of house team, to nab a catch-up with one of our chefs when they get a second. People know other people and we can definately vouch for the happines of the people at the Halt.

🎵 Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came…🎵
