Who moved the door?
Contrary to popular belief, we don’t change our front door in winter to cause confusion and chaos – honestly, we don’t.
As the clocks change, the evenings draw in, the days and nights get colder and we light our wood burner, we also change which door we use to get in and out of the Salehurst Halt. There is a purely practical reason for this – to keep you all warm and cosy.
In the summer it is lovely to have the door right opposite the end of the bar wide open to welcome you all in – it brings a lovely breeze with the air circulating from the front right through to our beautiful, vine covered patio, and the pub garden beyond. But a draft is not so welcome in the winter.
Hence why our winter opening door is moved to the side entrance in the colder months. We know this can cause a moment of confusion, we see people walking to the ‘usual’ door – but we know you’ll be pleased once you’re inside with our warm hospitality being reflected in the warmer pub.
There is a second reason to change – where else would we have room to put our Christmas tree come December? Placing it in front of the ‘summer’ door brings a wonderful festive feel to the Halt.
There are no set dates when we swap doors – it depends largely on the good old English weather. We will swap back again once we have hints of spring and summer.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Salehurst Halt – which ever door it is that you arrive through.
